Staff from Birmingham headquartered engineering solutions firm, adi Group, recently attended a local careers event in Kings Norton.

The event, hosted by Kings Norton Girls School, formed part of a challenge day for year nine pupils. As part of the day, students at the school had a chance to meet a range of employees from across multiple industries, and gain an insight about career pathways and the skills and qualifications needed for different careers. In addition, employers also offered tips on applying for jobs and courses and gave students opportunities to ask questions about the world of work.

A team of adi employees from across the Group including our Automotive Services, Climate Systems and, Environmental divisions attended to show students the range of careers and opportunities within the world of engineering.

Lorna Quigley, HR and CSR Manager at adi Group said, “The event was a fantastic way of introducing more girls to the world of work and engineering as a viable career option. The engineering sector has been suffering from a proportional shortage of young workers over the last ten years.”

“In fact, a recent report from Engineering UK highlighted that while women make up 46% of the UK workforce as a whole, women make up only 1 in 8 of those in engineering occupations and less than 1 in 10 of those are performing an engineering role within an engineering company.”

“This is one of the reasons why adi Group is proud to be working to introduce more young girls into this sector. By showcasing the range of experiences and roles that are available within engineering we’re hoping to change the perception that engineering is just for boys.”
