Multidisciplinary engineering firm adi Group has pledged to complete at least 200 employee volunteering days this year in a bid to increase support to its local community.
Having built a trailblazing responsible business strategy that led to raising £107,000 across a range of charities in 2023, the business is committing to doing even more in 2024, starting with its new volunteering initiative.
The firm is offering all its employees one volunteering day each, allowing them to help a local charity or organisation and support a cause of their choosing.
Commenting, Suzanne Burton, business systems director heading up the business’s responsible business strategy, says: “We are proud to be a business whose commitment to supporting the local community is at the forefront of our operations.
“Our responsible business agenda is a key part of our business objectives, and we strive to do more every year. We are thrilled to see the outcome of our 200 volunteering days initiative, and the tangible results of our employees’ efforts.
"We aim to get as many of our employees involved as we can, and engage them in something we believe to be of utmost importance – seeing our workforce’s values align with our responsible business ethos is particularly vital.
“Employees may choose to spend their volunteering day as part of a group activity, adding a beneficial team building element, too.
“We are also appointing designated ‘volunteering champions’, who will lead by example, getting more of our employees involved, coming up with exciting new ideas, and overall showing others the benefits of volunteering”.
The business is also pledging to double this commitment in 2025, reaching the 400-day milestone.
Throughout the years, the Birmingham-based firm has been officially recognised for its impact on the local community as well as its achievements within the realm of employee engagement.
In 2023, adi achieved an incredible number four ranking in Best Companies’ 2023 list of construction and engineering companies across the UK, being recognised for being the very best in workplace engagement.
The firm has also achieved a 2-star accreditation, cementing its status as an ‘outstanding’ company to work for.
adi provides outstanding opportunities for employees to become involved in engagement and team building events such as through management and apprenticeship awaydays, ESG strategy planning and technical skill building.
Having selected Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity as its new charity of the year in 2023, the business offers continuous support by participating in a range of volunteering and fundraising opportunities to help children in care and their families.
More than that, the firm and its employees provide 360-degree support to the hospital, such as through different types of engineering work, one-off donations for crucial pieces of equipment, and practical assistance.
And the business regularly participates in a plethora of fundraising events, too, such as the Dragon Boat Race, the Wolf Run and St Basils Big Sleepout, as well as organising its own events, including Macmillan Coffee Mornings, football tournaments and more, truly supplying its staff with a variety of opportunities to get involved.
