Birmingham-based engineering solutions firm adi Group has partnered with BP to become the first business in the UK to offset its fleet’s carbon emissions through the BP Plus Fuel Card.

As part of adi’s ongoing commitment to the environment, each time one of its 193 company vehicles uses the BP Plus fuel card to refuel at a BP service station, the carbon emissions associated with that purchase will be calculated and offset, leaving its vehicle fleet driving carbon neutral.

In order to demonstrate its commitment to carbon reduction and offsetting, the Midlands-based Group has already offset 1179 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions from 2015 and predicts it will offset almost 1200 tonnes of carbon equivalent emissions on an annual basis.

Calculating the CO2 emissions from the purchase of fuels and offsetting the equivalent amount of carbon is done in partnership with BP’s carbon reduction and offsetting programme, BP Target Neutral.

As well as reducing or displacing CO2 emissions adi Group’s carbon footprint is now mitigated across several independently audited and verified carbon mitigation projects around the world, which deliver social and economic benefits and help improve livelihoods in the communities where they are based.

Alan Lusty, chief executive of adi Group said: “As a responsible business which cares for the environment, we have long been aware of the environmental impact of our vehicle fleet and been working to reduce it.

“We are absolutely delighted to partner with BP in becoming the first carbon neutral fuel card customer in the UK.

“We now have a solution which mitigates against our carbon footprint without limiting how we operate.

“It also enables us to promote our responsible business credentials to our customers.”

UK fuel cards manager for BP, Andy Allen, added: “We recognise the increasing challenge our customers face from reducing their fleet emissions without significantly impacting operations.

“Our new fuel card offer in collaboration with BP Target Neutral overcomes this challenge by enabling customers to continue their operation whilst ensuring the environmental impact from driving is fully mitigated. It’s a real win-win for business.”
