The only way is up for Birmingham based adi Group. In response to growing demand from customers across the UK, the multidisciplinary engineering firm has announced the launch of adi VT Lift & Escalator Consultancy.

The new division, the latest addition to a list of over 30, will draw on over 40 years’ vertical transport (VT) sector experience to offer a wide range of consultancy services to clients in commercial, retail, manufacturing, healthcare, residential, leisure, hotel and pharmaceutical environments.

The launch of adi VT Lift & Escalator Consultancy forms part of a broader strategy that aims to more than double turnover from £82 million in 2017 to £200 million and grow the Group’s workforce from 600 to over 1,000, delivering great job opportunities to the West Midlands and beyond.

Safe and effective vertical transport systems, lifts and escalators in common parlance, play a vital but often hidden role in our economy, ensuring both goods and people move from A to B efficiently.

Whether that’s shoppers on escalators in a department store or heavy-duty goods lifts in a factory, we don’t tend to notice their importance until they break down or cause a problem. And, when they do, the costs for everyone soon mount.

So, adi have put together a programme of consultancy services to help ensure businesses of all kinds benefit from VT continuity and that equipment is safe, regularly serviced and compliant with all statutory requirements.

adi Group Strategic Account Director, James Sopwith said of the new division, “We listen carefully to our customers, so, when so many of them asked for our help, it made perfect sense that we expanded our capabilities to meet their needs.

Businesses know how important it is to ensure their equipment is in safe working order and compliant with all the regulations. But administering effective servicing, maintenance and compliance schedules for complex equipment is an onerous task at the best of times.

So, we’ve adapted some of our existing technologies and processes to help partners rationalise their compliance and maintenance and take away the strain. And we’ve brought on board some of the best talent in the field to make sure adi VT Lift & Escalator Consultancy’s delivery meets the high standards our customers have come to know and expect from everything the Group does.”

adi VT Lift & Escalator Consultancy’s comprehensive range of services are aimed at keeping vertical transport simple, devising bespoke maintenance, servicing and replacement plans for customers, so they can budget with clarity and know that their VT equipment complies with everything from health and safety to equalities legislation.

The new division will be led by Managing Director, Vance Cunningham, who has over forty years’ experience in the vertical transport industry. Beginning his career as an indentured apprentice, he became a qualified lift and escalator engineer, before progressing to Senior Lift Engineer and Business Development Manager positions.

Vance then joined Dunbar & Boardman as a Lift and Escalator Consultant in 1994, applying his knowledge to the manufacturing, residential, education, healthcare, retail, commercial and leisure sectors.

Vance has extensive managerial and directorial experience, overseeing the development of offices and personnel in Ireland, Warrington, Cardiff, Cirencester and Birmingham and taking responsibility for a number of large key account clients.

He has given best advice and provided management support for lift and escalator refurbishment, replacement projects and for ongoing maintenance contracts. As such, Vance has built one of the strongest reputations in the sector.
